Hosted by artist and teacher Kate Stedman in historic Maldon in country Victoria.
A fun and packed TWO DAY workshop with emphasis on explaining the basic techniques and skills of sketching, seeing and painting in watercolour using household objects as our theme.
Beginners all welcome as are seasoned experienced sketchers and painters.
We all work together and learn from each other and create our own pieces of artwork.
The workshop will be an Introduction to the wonder of watercolour and learning perspective and how to sketch vintage household items.
Anyone of any experience level will get the same enjoyment and learning from the workshops as we all work at our own pace.
So experienced sketchers are welcome too.
Kate will take you step-by-step and you will be amazed at what you produce.
We will provide you with vintage cups and crockery.
Do feel free to bring any old cutlery like the ones pictured above if they are especially unique and beautiful.
You will need to bring along a basic sketch kit but Kate will keep the requirements to a minimum.
LOGISTICS
Arrive the night before on the WEDNESDAY night and we can organise a group welcome dinner together in Maldon possibly at the local pub.
We recommend you stay the final Friday night too as you may like to make a weekend of it exploring Maldon and Castlemaine and visiting the shops, cafes and galleries. Maldon is a very cute historic town.
We will not provide transport so the assumption is that enough people have their own cars. There is very little driving to Kate's studio from central Maldon
You could catch the train up to Castlemaine from Southern Cross and then get a taxi ($50) to Maldon to save driving up too if you like.
ACCOMMODATION:
- We recommend the MOTEL MALDON see the link here -> https://www.motelmaldon.com/ for individuals who want a comfortable, cute, ensuite bedroom. There is a garden and a pool too.
This popular motel has 11 rooms and gets very booked up on weekends with cycling and hiking groups.
BYO breakfast.
- MALDON GETAWAYS see the link here -> ( https://maldongetaways.com.au/ ) rents out lovely local houses of 1 -4 bedrooms and is a far better deal than going through Air BnB to find a house.
They provide you breakfast hampers (whereas Air BnB does not) AND the money does not go to America!
MALDON GETAWAYS has several lovely homes for rent and my recommendation is:
- Fairbank House (see link here <-) – a heritage 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house so good for a group or
- Wiltshire House (see link here <--) – a heritage 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. One twin bed room, a Queen Room with own ensuite and a Queen Room with separate bathroom. Beautiful furnishings.
For solo travellers or couples (only 1 bedroom with own lounge room) The Little Barn in Maldon is great too. Book through thelittlebarnmaldon@gmail.com and speak to Kim.
You will need a car unless you don’t mind a 15 minute walk into town and back. It is a 25 minute walk to Kate’s studio from the Little Barn. Need a car.
Or the historic B&B in Maldon with individual rooms called PALM HOUSE copy this link: https://palmhouse.net.au/
