Each day we have a sketch demo and sketching workshop as well as orientation walking tour and free time to do what you like in each wonderful town we visit.
DO I NEED TO BE A TALENTED ARTIST?
Absolutely not. You will be there for the pure love of learning and sharing with a group of like-minded people and we all learn and create at our own pace. You can be a pure beginner and feel just as pleased with your output and learning as everyone else. Shari will be there to teach, inspire and encourage you each day no matter what your skill and experience level.
Our tour starts in Montreal on September 1 in 2020. This is a unique opportunity to let Shari share with you her home town and her favourite sketching spots whilst enjoying the wonderful ambience of Montreal.
Shari then takes you to the sister French-speaking city of Quebec to explore and sketch each day and fill our journals with wonderful new techniques and mementos.
Our tour ends after breakfast in Quebec city on September 9 and you are free to make onward travel arrangements from there.
Our tours are all fully-escorted and designed for affordability, fun and safety in comfortable, relaxing conditions.
Kate is your historian and tour manager who has taken many tours to different cities and loves the region and its history and beauty. She will entertain you with fun facts and tales each day.
We cater for people who love history, food, culture and learning a creative skill - or just like to explore new places in a fun group.
Each afternoon is free for you to amble, explore, read, shop, paint, cook - whatever you'd like to do as we offer so many suggestions. We design activities for variety and interest and you are free to join us or take off on your own.
Non-sketchers are most welcome on this tour too if they are sharing with a Sketcher.
Travel Sketching in Watercolour with Shari Blaukopf
How do you tell the story of a journey through your sketches?
The answer is not in any single sketch, of course.
The answer emerges slowly across a series of sketches, both large and small, captured in a single sketchbook.
Turning the pages, these sketches reflect the essence of the location and your responses to your surroundings.
This workshop is designed to give participants a variety of skills to help them feel confident while travel sketching — capturing people, places and things that evoke memories of a time and a place —and return home with a fat book filled with fresh and colourful sketches.
As part of a small group, participants will observe plenty of demos and receive individual attention from Shari as we work on
- value studies
- simplifying a scene
- keeping our watercolours fresh.
We’ll focus on having fun while we sketch, recording as much as we can as we capture cafés, cobblestone streets and traditional Quebec architecture.
Each session will end with a review as a group to share ideas and learning.
Even if you have never put a pen on paper to sketch anything – or if you have been sketching for a long time – you will find this 9 day experience imagic and inspirational. Our sketch Holidays suit everyone and everyone learns every day in a supportive, caring and happy environment.
You will be amazed at what you can achieve when shown how.
The bond created within the group becomes very special as everyone learns from and encourages each other in being creative. A skill and a present to take home with you for life.

Your afternoons are free to explore and sketch more if you like. Montréal is a slice of old Europe, half Paris half Brooklyn in many respects.
Photogenic 18th-century facades of Old Montréal, the stunning Notre Dame Basilica, graffiti art, avant-garde galleries and museums... and Montreal's iconic bridge.
Montréal is Canada’s cultural juggernaut. It is part of Francophone Canada with a fascinating medley of neighborhoods where artists, writers and musicians that has helped cement the city’s reputation as a great arts center.
From Montreal we travel directly to Quebec City for 4 nights. A fortified city nestled on the Saint-Lawrence river, Quebec is the oldest city in North America founded by Samuel de Champlain in 1608.
It is a scenic, romantic, quaint and a smaller city than Montreal with the fairytale Chateau Frontenac towering above everything. A pearl of a city for Sketchers and history lovers.
The picturesque old cobblestone streets are sprinkled with historic buildings, churches and shops, with the magnificent St. Lawrence River as the backdrop. Surrounding this setting are the stone walls or fortifications which the French built hundreds of years ago to protect the city from being attacked.
